Mike and Larry finally achieved national exposure after being introduced to West Coast custom car legend, George Barris. Barris visited the shop after transporting his XPAK 400 Hovercraft car to the 1961 Detroit Autorama. Upon arrival, he discovered the car had been damaged during transport and needed reliable professionals to fix the vehicle in time for the Autorama. In exchange for their scrappy handiwork, he helped get the Alexander Brothers West Coast exposure by reaching out to prominent editors.
The brothers also worked on Leroy Brooks’ Purple Pelican. Mike and Larry added concave quarter-panels and 1958 Chevy headlights. The 1953 Ford became known for its beautiful candy purple with white scalloping paint job.
